Nature Together runs on volunteers. Every hike, garden bed, yoga session, and trail audit happens because someone gave their time. However much you have to give, there's a place for you here.

Lead or co-lead a community hike, keep the group together, and help everyone feel welcome on the trail.

Get your hands in the dirt. Help plant, weed, and tend community garden beds alongside participants.

Set up mats, welcome participants, and support our outdoor yoga and wellness sessions.

Set up supplies and support participants during our nature-inspired art and journaling sessions.

Share your career story with youth and community members exploring outdoor and conservation careers.

Walk local trails and sidewalks with our team to help us document access and safety needs.

Want real hands-on experience with a nonprofit that's actually growing? We'd love to have you.
Nature Together is a small but mighty team, and interns get to be right in the middle of the action. You won't be fetching coffee. You'll help us build programs, connect with our community, and get outside doing work that actually matters.
Who we're looking for
Students and recent grads who care about community, the outdoors, and making Tennessee a healthier place to live. No specific major required. We've had great interns from environmental science, social work, public health, business, and communications backgrounds, and honestly, curiosity and a good attitude matter more than your major.

Nature Together | Grant-Funded Position | 1099 Contract
Nature Together is looking for a Contracted Nature Guide to bring our Clovers program to life in the Upper Cumberland! Clovers is our nature-based program for youth ages 5–22 with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and this role is all about creating safe, joyful, outdoor experiences where every participant feels welcome.
This is a grant-funded position. Funding comes from the TN Department of Disability and Aging FY27 Youth Developmental Camp Grant. The contract runs with the grant period, September 2026 through August 2027, and will end when the grant period ends.
What you'll do
Recruit and welcome participants and families into the program, partnering with schools, homeschool groups, and disability-serving organizations in the area
Plan and lead weekly sessions rotating through hikes, outdoor yoga, adaptive gardening, nature art, and career exploration activities
Lead community field trip and enrichment days throughout the year
Create a sensory-friendly, flexible environment with visual supports, sensory breaks, and small groups
Keep participants safe by following health and safety protocols and appropriate staff-to-participant ratios
Communicate with parents and caregivers about session logistics and accommodations
Check in regularly with Nature Together's CEO for support and coordination
Where you'll be Sessions take place across the Upper Cumberland, including local hiking trails and natural areas (like Burgess Falls State Natural Area and City Lake Natural Area), and community parks around Sparta and White County. More sites may be added as the program grows.
When Four six-week session cycles throughout the year:
Early Fall: Sept 12 – Oct 17, 2026
Late Fall: Oct 17 – Nov 21, 2026
Early Spring: Jan 16 – Feb 20, 2027
Late Spring: Mar 6 – Apr 10, 2027
The weekly day and time are flexible and will be set together based on site availability, family schedules, and your availability.
Pay & hours $25/hour, approximately 72 hours across the grant year (about 24 sessions plus prep and travel time).
What we're looking for:
Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred
Comfortable leading outdoor, hands-on activities with youth and young adults
Strong communicator with participants, caregivers, and our team
Reliable transportation within the Upper Cumberland area
Willingness to complete Nature Together's training on inclusive programming, communication and behavioral support, and emergency response
